Charities We are Sponsoring

We are choosing two charities to sponsor.

The first is London Zoological Society who have a programme called EDGE (www.edgeofexistence.org). We chose this because we adore the strangest creatures we have seen and want to do everything we can to help. Several of the EDGE-supported animals are on our route. The London Zoological Society obviously has links to London but also happens to be where we got married!

The second is Sighsavers International (http://www.sightsavers.org.uk/Our Successes/World3008.html). Sightsavers is an international charity supporting many aspects of blindness - river blindness, treatments, eye operations etc.   The children chose to support an international charity helping blind people after discussion amongst themselves and with their friends.

The straight line distance between London and Beijing is 5059 miles.  We estimate that we will drive 8,500 miles.  If we make it, sponsorship per mile would therefore be:

1/10th pence per mile: £8.50
½ pence per mile £42.50
1 pence per mile: £85.00
5 pence per mile: £425.00
£1 per mile: £8,500!!
